Berlinde de Bruyckere, We are All Flesh, 2009
Wax sculptures of conjoined figures “forming a symbiotic dialogue with two paintings by Giordano (Saint Bartholomew and Prometheus Bound, circa 1660), depicting shackled men in the throes of torture.” Bruyckere’s sculptures “present the body as perishable and fragmented, eerily incomplete.”
The Sculpture Work of Kevin Francis Gray
London-based Kevin Francis Gray is one of my favorite sculpture artists. Using bronze, he sculps figures covered in cloth, outlining silhouettes- much like Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s works. I particularly appreciate the metallic quality of bronze, reflecting light at all directions.
